With a strong sense that they had the potential to command greater value combined with a a desire to be in greater control of their own destiny  Atihau-Whanganui engaged Foundational to develop a market-facing brand. One that would help grow its customer connection in local and international markets, and benefit its people for generations to come.

A natural kinship

With a focus on the U.S. market, and through engaging directly with board members, elders and customers alike, Foundational developed the brand & story for Awhi - the acronym for Atihau Whanganui Incorporation, and the Te Reo Maori word for ’hug, embrace, cherish’ - reflecting the inseparability of people and land, how their health and wellbeing are intrinsically linked.
